Today, a special guest visits ... Maureen Caudill. It's not often that I feature non-fiction, but figured a little bit of psychic phenomena was perfect for this time of year. (And yes, on many issues, I am a believer.)
I’m going to tell you a Halloween tale, except this one is true. Really.
I write nonfiction about psychic stuff. I look at the scientific
evidence behind psychic phenomena—things like being able to communicate with
the dead, or see things that are far away. Then I write about the
peer-reviewed, scientific studies that prove that these things are real—and I
spice it up a bit by talking about my own experiences doing these
things—experiences that started about 10 or 12 years ago (after a lifetime of
having not one psychic
experience prior to one amazing week).
The thing is, while psychic skills are common in fiction,
that’s what most people think about them…that they’re fiction.
The problem is…they’re not. Fiction, I mean. Bending spoons by
using your mind to soften the stainless steel so you can twist it easily into
weird sculptures… piece of cake. I’ve taught (literally) thousands of people to
do it. It’s a snap. In fact, in the 1970s (that’s more than forty years ago!) the CIA had absolute,
incontrovertible, scientific proof that psychically bent spoons and forks have
a different crystalline structure than those bent mechanically (like with
pliers or a vise, as a magician might fake it). So don’t believe anyone who
says spoon-bending is impossible. I can do it, and I can teach you to do it
too.
Learning how to access altered states of consciousness so you
can connect with spiritual beings…another easy-peasy skill. Just about everyone
can do this one too, with a little training and practice. Again, I’ve taught tons of folks how to do
just that. Takes a little bit of
practice, but it’s not that hard.
Healing people from hundreds of miles away and curing them of real physical
symptoms…well…maybe not a snap, but it can be done. It’s been done to me. Let me tell you about one particular time.
Several years ago, I had a knee that had somehow been injured,
and after weeks of getting worse by the day, was swollen up to two or three
times its usual size and so inflamed that it radiated heat you could feel with
your hand inches away. It was so painful I couldn’t straighten it fully or bend
it more than about halfway without extreme pain, and I couldn’t put any weight
on it at all. Anti-inflammatories were doing nothing to help. I was purely miserable.
So I called my BFF Deb who lives about 700 miles from me, and I
did what anyone would do at a time like that.
I whined.
::whine:: My
knee hurts, Deb! ::whine::
I swear, a grumpy three-year-old had nothing on me.
Not very noble, was it?
But I really just wanted some sympathy.
But Deb, being Deb, had another suggestion. Did I mind if she
sent some energy healing my way?
At the time, I was totally skeptical about healing powers from
700 miles away, but this was my BFF, and I wasn’t going to insult her by saying
this was a waste of time. Besides, my knee really hurt. In the spirit of “can’t
hurt, might help,” I said, “Sure, go ahead.”
Less than an hour later, while
I was still on the phone with her, my knee:
- No longer hurt at all;
- Could bend and straighten normally;
- Could bear my weight just fine;
- Had lost 100% of the inflammation—it was no longer red or hot; and
- Had started to lose the swelling. (Getting rid of all the swelling took maybe a week or so, but the size started going down while I was on the phone with Miracle Deb).
This was several years ago as I write this, and from the moment
I hung up the phone to this very day,
I’ve never had another lick of trouble from that knee. Seriously.
Furthermore, there are some very
cool scientific studies on energy healing that proves it works too. Amazing
stuff.
As for communicating with the dead…gotta say…that’s real too.
Yup. There are some extraordinarily well designed studies that demonstrate
almost conclusively that talented mediums can do this amazing feat also. And, yes, you might be able to learn how to
do that too.
If you love a bit of psychic in your fiction, just know that
the “fiction” part of your favorite novel may have nothing whatsoever to do
with the psychic skills of your heroine.
And If you’re curious
enough to want to know something about the scientific proof that psychic skills are real, think about picking up a copy
of IMPOSSIBLE REALITIES. If you do, you can find out about the time I
tried to sprout seeds in the palm of my hand.
It wasn’t a big success—the seeds didn’t sprout. Exactly
But instead of sprouting, something even more amazing happened.
You’ll have to read about it in the book if you want to know why I’ve never
tried that little skill since. I won’t
go into details here, but I will admit that the attempt left me…
Spooked!
Impossible Realities is the first book to examine the science behind
psychic and paranormal activity. A former Defense Department expert on artificial
intelligence, Maureen Caudhill provides evidence for a wide range of paranormal
phenomena.
Impossible Realities presents a wealth of anecdotal and empirical evidence to prove the existence (and power) of:

Caudill
presents the strongest case yet for bringing paranormal phenomena from the
margins into the realm of the normal and credible. This is a book both for true
believers and skeptics alike.
