Eat Your Words!

Mmmmm. Sweet! Sugarcane paper?

Many writers share the same guilty pleasure: Office supplies! If you ever attend a writing conference, watch out for the writer's spread, which includes notebooks and an abundance of different-colored pens. Not to forget the laptop or tablet with keyboard, too.

You never know when inspiration might strike. Recently, I went to Staples to buy some notebooks for my daughter in middle school. Once, too often, we made a morning trip because she "forgot" she needed a new spiral. Me? I like to stock up and have a few extra on hand ... you know, for when they're needed.

Of course, while I was at the office supply heaven, temptation abounded. I had to get a few things for myself. Upon perusing the journals, I found this tasty treat? Sustainable paper made from sugarcane? Who knew?

It puts a whole new twist on the cliche Eat Your Words. Alas, I didn't like the bland cover or rough paper so for now I'll have to keep using my NaNo notebook. It'll only last so long ...

Tell me: I'm not alone, right? Do you have a fav. office supply goody? Do you need a new pen/notebook for each project or conference?

Until next time,

Review: Ready to be Unraveled?

Review:

Piece by piece, break it down, and unravel this sexy new release by Alyssa Breck. I have to admit, I came into the book already prejudice. After reading a few of Breck's tales, and more than liking them, I had high expectations for this new rock star romance. And baby, did she put out.

Unraveled is a fast-paced read that pairs a quiet paralegal with a lead singer. The characters are multi-dimensional, and the plot believable. Hey, come on: I can see the rocker-type being tired of the crazed fangirls. Who wouldn't crave a stimulating piece of normality?

The book takes place in my hometown, Long Beach, Calif., and Breck infuses the right amount of details. The action quickly heats up as Lyle helps Evie discover her wild side. Unraveled is totally worth the cost of this ticket!

Blurb:

Evie lives quietly under the romantic radar until a coworker invites her to a concert where she meets Lyle Crane, the sexy singer of a heavy metal band. A little harmless flirting between the shy paralegal and the outgoing rock star provokes a crazed fan to eliminate her competition.

Chemistry brews between Evie and Lyle when a gunshot rings out in the dark and the unlikely couple is set on a collision course neither of them saw coming.

I Think I’m Gonna Like It …

Classic Annie: Shirley Temple
“For Halloween, I’d like to dress up as Annie.” – my 8-year-old daughter.

If you have children, then you know as soon as Halloween is over, they start talking about what they’re going to be next year. It’s an on-going discussion, until the event actually happens. A few months ago, the costume of choice was My Little Pony.

We saw the new Annie opening week, and since then my daughter’s been singing her heart out. Yesterday, I bought her the CD and we listened to it on the 40-minute drive home from school, and again this morning. So her pronouncement is no real surprise.

1977 Annie

What struck me though was the choice – Annie. When I was growing up, little girls didn’t dream of playing Annie unless they had short, curly red hair. Serious.

The long-standing icon was created by the likes of Shirley Temple and the 1977 version I grew up with. It continued through stage productions for years and years.

What makes me so excited about the diversification in the new Annie is that anyone can play the role. My dark-blonde, green-eyed daughter can say, “I want to dress up as …” and not think twice.

Now that’s a bit of magic that not everyone thinks about. What do you want to be when you grow up?

Until next time,

What’s on Tap! Works in Progress

We’re a few weeks into the new year, and I’m furiously working on a few stories. I’ve received some emails asking about the next Vampire, Witch & Werewolf novel, and when I saw my cousin this week, she asked about the next “Death” book (my 1Night Stand series).

So here’s what I’m working on:

Sex University: The Master Class – The third book in the series has been living in my head for a few years. I’ve received the rights back to the first book, Physical Education, and a new publisher will release both.

The story is a FFM, and features a special “couples” retreat.

Deadline: March 1

Paranormal for a March 17 Lucky Stars Box Set

Following up on the Three Times Lucky Box Set is one featuring hot paranormal stories. I’ve started one, and need to finish.

Deadline: Feb. 14 (notice the date’s before the last one …)

Beyond Fairytales: Sleeping Beauty story

I scored a coveted re-telling of Sleeping Beauty. With proposal in hand, the writing is vying for attention.

The Vampire, The Witch & the Werewolf: Zada’s story

Right now, this book is the last planned in The Vampire, The Witch & The Werewolf series. Along with Zada, the story also will tie up Jana, Dom and Andre.

Predicted release: For Authors After Dark in August

And there’s more:

New erotic paranormal series:

I’m reworking book 1 of a new erotic paranormal series, and have three more planned out.

“With Death” 1Night Stand – Yes, there’s at least one more in the series. Death’s a bit peeved about losing so many new recruits.

Erotic contemporary – Oh my! It’s written, just need time to re-work.

And then there’s that Duran Duran fan fiction anthology some friends and I teased about. Yes, we’re all interested!

So that’s a glimpse into my working mind for now. Many of these clamor for their story to be told NOW. But, they need to wait their turn. Plus, who knows what else might spark inspiration!
