Talk nerdy to me with debut author Sabrina Sol

If you're looking for the Merry Menage Blog Hop, it's a few down or click on that link.

Please welcome debut author Sabrina Sol, a personal friend of mine. Shhh! I went to college with Sabrina, and she probably has some stories to tell. And, yes I like "corrupting" my journalism friends.

Nerds. Geeks. Dweebs. Four-eyes. Brainy Acts. Dorks.

Whatever they’re called, they’ve still come a long way, baby.

Smart is the new sexy and we’ve got Hollywood to thank. From the TV show The Big Bang Theory to the movie She’s Outta My League, a new love for all things nerdy has blossomed. And I, for one, think it’s pretty cool.

So why are geeks all of sudden being looked at as leading men or cover models? I think it’s the lure of being in a relationship with someone who is intelligent, witty, kind and humble. Nerds or dorks seem to appreciate what’s underneath and are sincerely interested in learning things they do not understand.

Hello? Isn’t that everyone’s definition of the perfect mate?

Of course, not every so-called nerd would be an ideal boyfriend and girlfriend. That’s not realistic. Or maybe the obstacle to finding love with a geek has more to do with their self-image than anything else.

Take for example, the heroine in my new release REUNITED. Back in high school, Magdelena Cruz was considered a nerd and she pined away quietly for Will Hudson – the star of the school’s basketball team. Years later, Magdelena still doesn’t believe that Will would ever want to spend the night with the real her. So she reinvents herself and hides her true identity in order to engineer a blind date with Will through Madame Evangeline’s 1Night Stand agency.

Magdelena didn’t realize that she didn’t need to come up with a new persona for her date with Will. There is such a thing as being smart AND sexy. It’s called SMEXY.

To show you examples of what smexy looks like, I decided to compile a list of hot guys and gals who I love to hear talk nerdy. And so the husband doesn’t get too jealous, I’m only picking characters from TV.

Top 6 Smexy Nerds (in no particular order)
  • Chuck Bartowski (Chuck)
  • Sloan Sabbith (The Newsroom)
  • Dr. Spencer Reid (Criminal Minds)
  • Jess (The New Girl)
  • Nolan Ross (Revenge)
  • Dr. Maura Isles (Rizzoli & Isles)

What do you think of my list? Did I miss anyone? I’d love to hear about your smexy crushes.

Now to celebrate the release of Reunited, I’m holding a big giveaway on my blog. Click on the link below the excerpt to enter.

REUNITED by Sabrina Sol

Blurb:
What would you do if you had the chance to sleep with your unrequited high school crush?

If you’re former geek Magdelena Cruz, you’d do him in a heartbeat. But you’d lie about your true identity first and hope your new sexy persona is enough to create a night neither of you will forget.

Workaholic assistant DA Will Hudson doesn’t have time for a love life. Expecting to scratch an itch with a willing stranger, he signs up for Madame Evangeline’s 1Night Stand experience. He has no idea that his date is no stranger.

A reunion between two classmates will be hotter than the scorching Las Vegas sun. But will the heat be enough to spark something deeper, or will they both end up getting burned by Magdelena’s charade?

Excerpt:
Standing in front of the door to the suite, she let the magnitude of the moment sink in. All logic and practicality fled. She’d left both back at home with her pocket protector and sensible shoes. The situation called for her to be impulsive, daring and confident.
If you are, then he will finally be yours….
She smoothed her dress, adjusted her bra, and blew into her hand for a breath check. Satisfied, she slid her key card into the slot and pushed the door open.
A blaring TV welcomed her. Not that she expected a violin serenade, but she hadn’t planned on competing with a basketball game for her date’s attention. She frowned.
“Pass the ball, you idiot!” Will shouted.
Tingling from head to toe at the sound of his voice, she released a slow breath.
It’s now or never, Magdelena.
“Hello?” she called.
The TV turned off instantly. A second later, he walked into her view.
Her throat tightened.
The years had been good to him. No, they’d been great to him. Although she’d seen pictures on the alumni website, they didn’t do him justice. Every visible inch of his body appeared chiseled from stone. A dark gray shirt and black slacks perfectly accentuated every muscle. He wore his dark hair shorter than she’d seen in the photos, but his blue eyes were more piercing than ever. He looked her over, settling on her cleavage and her nipples that had come to attention the minute she saw him. Then he raised his eyes to meet hers.
“Hello, Elena.” His deep voice lit her soul on fire.
He doesn’t recognize me. This plan might work after all.

  2. I think part of nerds as MCs is because our world has become so immersed in technology. Nowadays we have to rely on the "nerds" and that had to eventually translate into making them heroes and heroines.

  3. What a great article. Thanks for posting this. Every time I come across some advice telling me I have to write macho arrogant alpha male type to sell romance, I'll think of this. Great excerpt too.

  4. Faith, I'm old school with watching "Square Pegs." Jeff Goldblum is my favorite "nerd." I saw him at LAX airport -- stunning tower of a man in tight jeans and along black leather jacket.

And that is totally sexy Chrissey!
