Get “Tempted by the Storm” by Maxine Mansfield

If you're looking for the Merry Menage Blog Hop, it's one post down.

What an amazing, special interview with Maxine Mansfield. Oh, she has some special treats for readers, indeed. With a wicked sense of humor, too. Wow. Wait until you read her favorite dessert. One I’ve never, ever, come across before! And yes, now I definitely want to read more from her.

How do the “elves” in this “lusty” tale differ from what people traditionally think of elves this time of the year?
My books are based very loosely on role-playing game worlds filled with magic like Everquest, World of Warcraft, Dungeons and Dragons, etc. so, my elves are very different than Santa’s. For one, there are two basic types, High Elves, and Dark Elves. Sarco, the hero in Tempted by the Storm is a High Elf wizard. He is tall, handsome, dark haired, and has crisp pointed ears just perfect for nibbling on, and a ripped body that the sight of would land even Mrs. Santa on the naughty list if she caught a glimpse. The other type are Dark Elves. They are also tall and handsome, but they have indigo blue skin, snow white hair, and let’s just say that Santa would have to come up with a whole new level of naughty list to put them on.

What do you like the most/least about your heroine Lark?
Though Lark is half Human, half Barbarian. I think what I like the most about her is that at heart, she is so very human. She’s the younger sister who grew up in the shadow of a beautiful princess, yet instead of being envious; she loves her sister with all her heart and would do anything for her. The least, hum? If there is anything I would say I like the least about Lark, it would be that she doesn’t realize her true worth, at least not at first. That’s one of the lessons she learns along the way.

At what stage would you say you are in your writing career?
I’ve been writing for more than fifteen years now, but Tempted by the Storm is only my second full-length book published, the third one is in copy edits right now, due out in the spring, and the forth in The Academy series is more than half completed. Yet, I still consider myself such a beginner. I’m not sure at what point that changes, and I’m not sure I want it to. I kind of like the feeling of still being the student, and not the master. There is always so much more to learn.

How do you get in the mood to write the sexy scenes in your erotic romances?
Lol, I wish I could tell you that I light candles, turn on mood music, dress in satin or silk, or even cuddle up to Rich, my very own personal hero, but the truth of the matter, is I usually lay down quietly (by myself) in the dark and try to envision the scene in my mind before I ever start writing. I need to see how the hero touches the heroine, how they speak to each other, how they move, the sounds, the smells, the tastes. With time, it comes together in my mind. But mostly, like the world I strive to create, I believe it’s simply the result of magic.

What’s your favorite line/scene in Tempted by the Storm?
I don’t want to give away the end, so I’ll just say that my very favorite line is the last thing Lark says to Sarco before the epilogue.

What’s your next WIP about?
My next book is called Taken by the Passion and it’s due out in early 2013. In Tempted by the Storm, you’ll meet a big, hunky Barbarian named Adan. He’s Lark’s big brother, and the next book in the series is his story. Like I said, though, that book is done and now in copyedits. The one I’m working on right this moment is called Tested by the Night and in it, you’ll meet Briar and Uthiel’s daughter Kitrina. They were the hero and heroine of book one Touched by the Magic.

What’s your favorite dessert?
Have I told you yet that I am a little weird? My very favorite dessert in the whole world is strawberry ice-cream with crushed barbeque potato chips sprinkled on top.

What is one goal for 2013?
To listen to and enjoy the sound of my grandchildren’s laughter every single chance I get.

Would you describe yourself as naughty or nice?
If you ask my grandkids they would tell you I’m nice, very nice. But trust me; I still have my naughty moments. Hehe!

Larksong Hammerstrike has always been just the younger sister of Princess Aryanna. Never quite as pretty or as smart, always lacking, a mere empath whose power gets her into trouble more often than not. But at Carnalval, the festival of all things sexual, she unleashes her sensual side for a night in the arms of a masked stranger. When morning dawns, Lark can't resist a peek beneath the mask of her lover and is once again crushed by fate. The man of her lusty adventure is none other than the future Lord of the High Elves and destined to marry her sister.

As heir to the kingdom of Landis and current instructor of wizardry at the Academy of Magical Arts, Sarco Sunwalker is honor bound to rise above the temptation of the beautiful empathic student who invades his mind, body, and soul. But when sparks fly, lightning strikes, and thunder rolls, Sarco finds himself more than tempted by the storm of Lark's passion and vows to find a solution that will prevent a war between races, fulfill an infamous quest, and win Lark's hand.
