“Purple Rain” by Prince. “Careless Whispers” by WHAM! “Safety Dance” by Men Without Hats, when it meant more than an ’80s station on satellite radio. In junior high school, I spent most of the dances huddled with my girlfriends and whispering about the boys we liked. High school drifted into an experience of bodies tightly pressed on the dance floor.
I’ll be your freakazoid baby.
In college, I discovered musicians, not just bands. If a sexy man could play the guitar and sing to me … sigh. It made everything better. When I started covering bands, I fell in love with hot, strong female singers like mmmm, Bif Naked.
The subject of today’s blog, first dances, made me realize that none of my novels feature dancing. Music plays heavily, but no actual moving to the beat. I’ll have to fix that real soon. When it comes to Vampires, my favorite song continues to be “Bloodletting (The Vampire Song” by Concrete Blonde. It’s just too easy to imagine a few bloodsuckers swaying to the intoxicating beat. Have a listen
Look at all that LOVE! If one’s good, two’s better … then three has to be CRAZY, right? As part of my prizes, I’m giving away a daily prize of an electronic copy of one of the books from my backlist, and a few Grand Prizes:
1) $25 See’s Candy gift certificate
2) Certificate for a pound of See’s Candy
3) $10 Certificate for Ravenous Romance
Oh, yes, you get your own sweets! Leave a comment with an email address so I can contact the winners. (1 winner for each prize. Daily winners also will be entered into the Grand prize.)

Great post. I do remember standing on the side at the couple of dances I went to in Jr. High. Didn't go out dancing very often since I've been married. Not for lack of trying to talk my DH into it though. He just doesn't like crowds. :(
ReplyDeleteI'd never heard that song before. Definitely great fodder for a dance scene in a vampire novel. *shakes head* (Oh, no! There goes my muse running with a new idea!!)
I realized the same thing! I've never written dancing before. Must fix. The only dance I have personal experience with is belly dancing. Hmm... *gears turning*
ReplyDeleteI've read two books, which featured dancing, one of them a character who was a professional ballet dancer. It made me want to try out ballet for myself :)
ReplyDeleteDo See's ship internationaly, the candy looks pretty good, so I'm wondering if the shiping rates are horendous? ;)

Oh, wow. Those eighty songs bring back memories! Happy hopping

Whoo-hoo! . Looks like we've got a party going on already *early* this morning. My hubby isn't much of a dancer either -- one reason why I didn't talk about him!
ReplyDeleteSo Tara and I are going somewhere today where we're both going to get roses! Oh, Valentine's Day!
Check in a little later!
I can't help but smile when I think of Vampires dancing. I think about Angel...YES, he did manage a wonderful prom dance (to Wild Horses) with Buffy, but later (in Angel) we discover that he definitely can't dance. When he flashes a thought about his own dancing, it's too funny!

lol. I've never been one to see the romance of musicians. Music? yes. Musicians? Well, can they play? Thanks for the contest, and Happy Valentine's Day!

Those 80's songs take me back to some great memories. I remember dancing to one of my favorites, Summer of 69 by Bryan Adams.
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day, Louisa.

Great post. Going to give that song a listen because I've not heard of it before. :D I melt for musicians too. I have a soft spot for the rock star, which is a very bad type of man to lust after, I know! But until vampires are real, I can't help myself.
ReplyDeleteI will have to listen to that song later (the speakers on my laptop suck). I remember those days of Jr. High & High School dances. By the time I was that age, it was the hair bands (Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, etc) and Rap (Late 80's early to mid 90's.
