What witches really did with those broomsticks!

Get ready for something a bit wicked, very wild and extremely wicked with Nikki Prince, and her  fellow contributors from A Cauldron of Tales. And while I don't usually feature "explicit," be warned with that steamy excerpt ...

Witches and broomsticks... I bet you visualize a woman with a long, warty nose and a pointy hat riding a broom across the moon. That’s what we’ve been told for years, yes?
*evil cackle*

You see, there was a time, long, long ago, when witches were any woman that didn’t conform to society’s rules. You took a few herbs, you were a witch. You lived alone, you were a witch. You didn’t go to church, you were a witch. Imagine what Puritan England would think of recreational drug users?

Truth was, many “witches” back then were drug users, women who used and escaped into hallucinogens. A drug was very popular, belladonna, and taking it allowed them to “dance with the devil” or whatever it was they imagined themselves doing.

But here’s the catch. They didn’t shoot it up. There were no needles and syringes. And it tasted bad. Awful.

So it had to be applied to an open wound or to your membrane. Take a wild guess, then, where you got some major mucus membranes, ladies, and think about that broomstick.

The “witches” did, indeed, shove broomsticks up their vaginas, with the ointment applied to the tip.
And that is how Devil’s Berries came to be.

I first read of this in The X-Files: Book of the Unexplained Volume Two.

There are tons more articles on the subject of witches “riding” those brooms. J

Happy Halloween!!!! Enjoy your broomsticks, ladies.

Excerpt from The Devil’s Berries:

Sabine lay on the bed of hay in the center of the room. The bowl of belladonna was on the floor by its side. She placed a finger in the concoction, raised it to her lips for an experimental taste, and grimaced at the horrid bitterness. But she had no open wounds, and she wasn’t going to inflict one, not when her mother had told her of another way. But first, she’d have to prepare.
She began with languid strokes up and down her breasts and belly. A warm build up started in her core and spread its warmth to her face, where it flushed her. Heat formed in her mound, where it grew damp, and then down to her toes, which curled. She ran her hands down to her core, touched herself there, moaned at the sticky feel. She began to stroke her little nub. Womanly juices began to drip onto her fingers.
Soon her body was relaxed enough, and she grabbed another object ready for her use from next to her bed. Taking a deep breath, she dunked the end of it into the devil’s berries, and after coating the broom’s smooth-sanded handle with the liquid, slowly and tentatively placed it at the entrance to her moistened pussy.
Sabine thrust it inside her in one stroke and gasped at the pleasure and pain of it. She tossed her head back and allowed a guttural cry to rent the air. Briefly, she lost her wits.
She didn’t know how much time passed as she lay there writhing, squeezing her breasts, stroking her belly, tweaking her nub, but as she came to from her latest explosion, she became aware of a presence in the room. A feeling of darkness and the smell of decay. She gasped. Had they come for her…?

What’s in a Series? with Kacey Hammell

A series is a collection of stories that focus on recurring characters. As such is the case with my “In the Arms of the Law” Series.
When I wrote Illusions (book 1), I never thought I’d be considering NINE books for a series. Of course, just because I’m thinking nine titles doesn’t necessarily mean there will be. But I’m optimistic about it, whether with short stories or free reads, I’m hoping to let every main character have his/her story.
With the first two full-length titles, it’s the bond of family that ties them together. Isabella & Alicia Knowles are cousins who have fought long and hard to be top-ranking Detectives. Tragedy, love, drama, murder, sensuality, heavy burdens are all vital pieces of their stories. With the 2.5 book, Tied Down, we revisit Isabella and Brady.
I love revisiting characters, and I love to read series’ as well, and hope in the end that it feels like I’ve spent time with an old friend.  A lot of authors do series very well, and I while I can’t claim to be an expert and guess they’ll be bestsellers (though that would be awesome!!), I think the characters I’ve written in the series are ones that readers will identify with, like, and want to visit regularly.

So how about you…do you love series? If so, what are some of your favorites?

On the trail of a killer, and with her old flame back in her life, Detective Alicia Knowles is forced to face the past as she tries to make decisions about her future…

Detective Alicia Knowles once believed there was good in everyone. Not anymore. After a harrowing experience, her life had changed and she was a very different woman. Now more dangerous, she moves through the darkness of her once sunny world, unsure what to do with her pent up feelings of fear and anger.
Even her new boss, Cole Douglass, makes her feel out of control. One night, years ago, he made her feel things she'd never felt with any other man. This time it can only be business between them.
With her latest case, however, temperatures flare.
Their passion is rekindled as the search is on for a missing child and a murderer on the run. Can Alicia protect her heart from the most dangerous power of all…love?

Excerpt © Kacey Hammell
She turned around. Their chests brushed, and she gave him a half-smile. “I know Hannah might not blame me, but I do. A few more moments, it’s all we would have needed. I’d change it if I could.” When Cole opened his mouth, she placed her fingers on his lips to silence him. “I can’t, but I vow to do whatever it takes to catch this son-of-a-bitch.”
Alicia tried to convey the sincerity of her promise as she stared into his eyes. For Hannah, and this man, she’d do whatever she could to bring peace to their family once more.
“I know you would. But you can’t carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. We’ll get him.” He raised his hand to her cheek and pushed back a strand of hair that had fallen over her face. Her breath quickened at the light touch. Her body stilled.
The air crackled with electricity. She was sure he could feel it, too; the tension rolled off his body like waves in the ocean. To walk away would be the best thing to do, but for the life of her, Alicia couldn’t get her feet to move.
“You know what, Ali?” His voice was soft and powerfully seductive. “You know what I remember most about our night together?”
Alicia’s hand clasped his wrist, below where his fingers rested lightly on her cheek. She wanted to fall into his arms, burn beneath his touch again. They’d never talked about it and she was curious to know what he remembered.
She remembered it all.
Every touch and sigh. Every kiss and pleasure she basked in.
Through many a cold and lonely night, she cherished the memories of Cole’s hard body pressed against hers, pushing her against the mattress—and the wall and the bathroom counter—but she marveled at how he’d made her feel like more of a woman in one night than she’d felt in all her adult years.
Her voice hoarse and scratchy, she whispered, “What do you remember?”
“Our fire.”
When his mouth claimed hers, her body ignited with long-repressed emotions. Hunger, mind-blowing hunger, rattled through her. It was so hard to breathe.

The time has come for Brady Jacobs to grab hold of the woman he loves and their future. But his lady, Isabella Knowles, is skittish. She’ll bolt at the mention of a future with him. He needs to handle her with precise planning, tools to seduce and never give her a moment to flee.

Brady will tie her down, pleasure her, push her farther than she’s ever experienced…then ask her to marry him. But no amount of planning can ensure Bella’s answer won’t include the business end of her Glock.

Excerpt © Kacey Hammell

Isabella stirred at a tug on her ankle. She shifted, not in any way eager to wake up.
Snuggling her cheek deeper into the pillow, she sighed. The web of slumber curled around her as she relaxed again.
At the shuffle of footsteps and a thump, she stirred. Her eyes flew open and she lifted her head. As she shifted to her side, she gasped.
Why couldn’t she move?
Jesus, what the hell?
Danger screamed through her mind while she took in the room around her. Right where she’d fallen asleep, in Brady’s bed.
No need to fear for her safety. Right?
“What the fuck is this?” Damn the bindings around her wrists and feet. “Brady!” she screamed. She’d kill the bastard who dared to enter their personal space. Cripes, if he’s been hurt, she’d carve out their hearts and throw the bodies in the ocean.
“I’m right here, babe.”
His head appeared over the foot of the bed. Her heart skipped a beat. Safe. Her head fell back in relief. She’d die if something happened to him. Could never relive him ever being hurt again. She’d barely survived once before when he’d been stabbed and almost blown to bits. She did not ever want to go through anything like it again.
“You okay, babe? These scarves aren’t too tight, are they?”
So lost in her own thoughts, she forgot she lay there, tied like some prisoner.
“What the hell? What’s going on?” He knelt at the end of the bed. She gaped as she took in her naked body, the scarves holding her legs and arms captive. Her heart rate accelerated. She had no control over any of this. Desperate to get out of the ties and the situation, she pulled hard, jerked her limbs to escape their captivity.
“Fuck! Goddamn it. Let me loose.”

Making Discoveries with Yazmin Subha

We have a treat of a new author visiting today. Yazmin Subha chats about her debut release Wildfire, and with many more in the works, expect this writer to spread like ... need I say it?

Hi Louisa,

Thank you for having me over to visit. As you know, I am really excited at the moment because I have had my first ever release, Wildfire came out on August 24 with Breathless Press.

My writing has all been about a journey into discovery. Realizing that something you liked to do in the past does not have to stay there. I loved scribbling when I was younger but life took over and the scribbling stayed in the past. However, about a year ago, I rediscovered the delight of writing and then with the help of my Critique Group – UCW- this discovery turned into a story then into a novella – Wildfire. My journey continues and I continue to make discoveries along the way!

Braden, my hero in Wildfire makes a discovery in the form of Millie. He has to fight for her then faces a stark choice. This leads him to making another discovery…I will leave it there for the readers to discover for themselves!

But here is the blurb and excerpt.

Braden has searched all his life for the one who will help him regain his humanity and give him absolute power. One bite and he knew Millie was the one he had been searching for. Millie, a fiery red head is the last one in the line of high born witches who would rather die than give herself to this vampire. After all he killed her mother for her blood as well, didn’t he?  But in a twist of fate Millie learns too late what the truth is. But will death be the only thing that unites them?

She was slight, her curves meshing against him as though they belonged next to him. She continued to wriggle her lower half trying to get out of his arms. Only the friction awoke the fierce passion residing underneath his skin, and his cock hardened.
"Be still my wild fire, it will be easier." Braden spoke in a low tone directly into her ear. He caught the smell of her hair and could not resist burying his face in the mass of red curls. He groaned with need. Need for blood and need for her.
His voice soothed her anxiety and he felt her stop trying to get out of his arms. Her heart beat slowed down, eventually matching his own. Synchronized again, Braden kissed the back of her head. Enjoying the feel of her silky hair in his face, he bathed in her curls. Moving the curls away from her neck, he bent down, opened his mouth, and sucked the skin on her neck. She tasted of nectar, his very own personal brand.  His head screamed to bite, to taste that rich blood he had sipped last night in the car wash. But the man in him wanted her to be willing, to take her as she reached the height of orgasm as she had nearly done so in the car wash. This time he would be inside her, not just pleasuring her with his hands.
His mind came back to the present as he felt little shakes coming from her, and he realized she was crying.
Her little voice wobbled and she gave a sob, "don't hurt me, please."

Well I hope your readers like the sound of that.

You can find the Wildfire here:

Up and Coming Works.

I am waiting for edits for book 3 of the Blood Bar Chronicles anthology due out later this year with Breathless Press. My story is called 'Logan's Captive.' Also in the edits queue is 'Gypsy Butterfly' which is part of Eclipse of the Blood Moon anthology with Evernight Publishing and Breathless Press have also said yes to another book called 'Guardian Awakening' so I am waiting for all that to come through. This book is intended to be first in a series of three, so I need to rework the second book and start thinking about the third.

Here's a little bit about me:

Yazmin Subha is a busy mother of two children, whose husband has got used to her sitting tapping away on her laptop. By day she sits at her job, all respectable and prim but by night she is imagining feisty heroines and sexy alpha males.

She is a British author who grew up with a love of reading. Books created other places, times and worlds to visit. It was the desire to try to write that saw her pen her first short story as a teenager. But then everyday life got in the way and it was only recently that she began scribbling again. Encouraged, or rather dragged screaming and kicking by her critique group UCW she decided to ‘have a go’.
Her teenage dream is finally coming true.

You can find me on:

Well Louisa, thank you for letting me visit! I hope to come again.

Don’t Call Me – Maybe

What happened between my teenage years and now? At 16, I had my own phone line with my very own number put in my room. At 19, I was dating someone who lived a few hours away, and we’d wait until 11 p.m. – when rates went down – to talk on the phone. In my early 20s, I lived a few states away doing an internship at a newspaper and my phone bill for those summer months? Astronomical!

Now? Hell no, I won’t talk!

The anti-social stance came somewhere after having my first child. It’s extremely difficult to be on the phone when you have little ones crying in the background. It doesn’t matter how independent they seem, the minute you get on the phone, some sort of crisis will take place. Absolute chaos erupts. It would be at that moment when she’d decide to do something like climb the piano or dive off the back of the sofa.

And then came not just writing but publication. Suddenly with two children, my time alone, focused, creative & alert, became even more precious. It’s a diamond, oil,  champagne and caviar all rolled up into scarce precious hours.

Sigh. The phone rings, breaking any train of thought, eating up time and sometimes it’s absolutely impossible to get back.

Now, that doesn’t mean that I don’t want to talk to my husband or my dad, or a single friend off work from their one job, or a student who didn’t read the question asked me and is freaking out about my answer, or work who could wait until the next day in the office to ask me whatever not-important question just surfaced.

Most of the time, that annoying ringing signifies a recorded politician who wants me to vote for something, or a home improvement company we requested to take us off the list 500 hundred-billion times! *Grrr*

People say that we’ve lost that personal connection with email and social media. But I’d much rather send a two-sentence message than spend 20 minutes on the phone rehashing the same thing.

I’ve morphed into the Grinch-Oscar all-tumbled into one: Don’t Call Me – Maybe. Unless, it’s really, really good and you know I made my upcoming book deadline!

Now back to working on book 4 of The Vampire, The Witch & The Werewolf series, titled, The Wolfe Pack.

How about you? Are you a social, talking, butterfly?

Why do we Love the Ugly Duckling? with Kim Carmichael

I’m hosting a special author today – Kim Carmichael. I first met Kim through one of my Online writing classes. She’s talented and driven, and has turned into a real friend. (It’s wonderful when the people you meet online actually live close!)
She’s giving away a few goodies to one lucky commenter. The winner can have a choice of skin care or a vintage Harlequin romance. Kim also is giving away signature bookmarks to the first five who requests them!

Enter to Win a Vintage Harlequin
The story of the Ugly Duckling is one of the most beloved and well-known fairy tales.  The outcast Ugly Duckling is made fun for his different looks. He hides away in a cave and reemerges as the beautiful swan where he floats off into the sunset.

Over the years, the story has been criticized for the Ugly Duckling did not really have to do anything, or accomplish a goal of any kind to solve his problem.  Time and DNA took care of him.

Still, we are fascinated by this tale, it has been told time and again in different incarnations, and so I had to ask myself why is it that we love the Ugly Duckling and his dilemma?

We identify with him and his plight – I think everyone at one point or another has felt like a mess.   No matter if you went through a gawky phase in your youth, or just wore an inappropriate outfit to a party, there are times we all think the spotlight is shining down on us and highlighting our flaws.

We have an inner need to fit in – Something about the Ugly Duckling reminds me of Dr. Seuss story, The Sneetches, where everyone wants whatever is fashionable, either the star on their belly or not.  Even if we try to be different, at the end of the day we want to fit in somewhere.  Everyone needs a place to belong.

We all love the concept of change – While the Ugly Duckling undergoes a natural metamorphosis, we all love the idea of being able to change into something completely different and beautiful.  The Ugly Duckling undergoes the ultimate makeover.

We love a success story – Good genes aside, we love that the Ugly Duckling succeeds.  He evolves into an elegant swan and is taken into a group where he belongs leaving the other ducks at the edge of the pond wondering what happened.  He now holds his head up high having achieved everything he ever wanted and we smile with him.

It gives us hope – Deep down in our hearts we want to believe that everyone has a chance to live their dream, no matter how large or small it may be.  Maybe you just want to take a swim in a pond and feel like a part of the group, or maybe you want to travel to the moon, either way we want to know that little bit of hope is out there and we can achieve our goals.

We love the Ugly Duckling because at its core it is more than simply a story about outward beauty, it is a story about life, and we can all relate.

About the Author:

Kim Carmichael began writing eight years ago when her love of happy endings inspired her to create her own.  She has a weakness for bad boys and techno geeks, and married her own computer whiz after he proved he could keep all her gadgets running.  When not writing, she can usually be found slathered in sunscreen trolling Los Angeles and helping top doctors build their practices.

"Stop!" A man yelled.

The barrel of another gun met her inches from her face. She tensed, not from the gun, but from the familiar inflection in his voice. The position of both their weapons hid the man's face.

"Get in and lower your gun, or we'll both lose."

"Back up and lower yours, or you won't have a hand left." No one told her what to do, not ever again.

The click of her cocking her weapon echoed around them.

He stepped back. "Get in and close the door."

With her gun still raised, she stepped and waited for her opponent to flinch first.

"Now." He moved a fraction of an inch.

She did the same, and with the silent acknowledgement they would both comply, they lowered their guns in unison. She almost shot herself in the foot at the sight of the man who greeted her. Before she made a mistake, she de-cocked her gun and shook her head. "Colin?" Her body betrayed her by trembling. Was this her punishment?

"Gwen." He shoved the gun in his waistband. "You're the one. I would have never guessed."

Think. She screamed at herself to remember her training, and not allow him to best her or distract her. She glanced around the room, giving her time to not look at him. Agents were supposed to be everyday people and blend in, but Colin Alexander stood out. From the moment she quite literally fell into his lap through a two-story ceiling three years ago, she wasn't sure why his agency chose such a standout. She supposed his combed-back black hair and golden eyes were some bizarre form of female torture.

Why do you think we like the Ugly Duckling stories? Please leave a comment for Kim, and a valid email address and you'll be entered into her giveaway for your choice of a skin care product or vintage Harlequin.
